Garstang's recycling and reuse centre should be the first stop for anyone having a clear out this summer.
You can be sure that any good quality things you take along to the facility on Brockholes Way, Catterall, will be given a new lease of life and it's a great place to find unusual and original items which have been fashionably reconditioned and repurposed.
The Community Recycling and Re-use Centre was opened in September 2015. It features the 'Bits and Bobs ' reuse shop run by recycling charity Refurb which accepts good quality items suitable for resale, and a facility for recycling provided by Lancashire County Council, fulfilling a demand for a facility of this type in the area.
Guy Hay, Refurb coordinator, said: "Since opening at the end of last summer we've put back to good use nearly 6.5 tonnes of furniture, electricals and household items which otherwise would have been thrown away.
"We check all items for safety before reselling, so people can be sure that they've got some life left in them and are safe.
"We also sell a lot of furniture that we've done-up or would be perfect for anyone doing their own shabby-chic. If you're looking for something a bit out-of-the-ordinary you might well find a bargain here. For example our unique planters and fire buckets made from old washing machines are particularly popular items, and just one of the ways that we try to show people that they can really transform waste into something useful.
"To date we have had fantastic support and good quality donations from people but we really need more to make sure we can keep this facility running and to be able to put something back into the local community."
County Councillor Clare Pritchard, Lancashire County Council lead member for waste, added: "This is a new type of facility in Garstang to help people to recycle and re-use more.
"By donating good quality goods people are helping a charity to reuse them and give them a new lease of life whilst providing training and volunteering opportunities.
"Unfortunately we are not able to accept all waste types so if you've never used the site before please check on the county council website before you set off to ensure that we can accept everything you want to bring to site."
Refurb welcome electrical items large and small, as well as furniture or any unwanted household items you may have. You can catch them at the Garstang Show in August.
The centre also has a range of recycling facilities. You can also find out more on the Bits 'n' Bobs Facebook page.
Refurb is also looking for more volunteers to help run the site, with opportunities available to help in the shop, sort and test donations, and promote the recycling and reuse centre. Contact Refurb on 01253 873371 or go to www.refurbproject.org to find out more.
