People have the chance to express their views on the future of Hameldon Community College, including its possible closure with effect from 31 August 2018, during the consultation period which will run from Monday 11 September until Friday 20 October.
Views can be shared about the proposal by returning a questionnaire and by attending a consultation event, which will be held next month.
The event will be held on Wednesday 11 October from 3pm to 8pm at the school on Coal Clough Lane, Burnley.
A number of education officers from the county council will be there to listen to people and answer their questions. It is easier for people to express their views at the event by making an appointment first. This will assist in keeping waiting times to a minimum and also help to make sure that a suitable officer is available to provide as full a response as possible.
Appointments can be made to share views at the consultation event by emailing Lancashire County Council's Pupil Access Team at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling the them on 01772 531676.
County Councillor Susie Charles, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools, said: "A number of circumstances have combined to make this consultation necessary.
"Despite considerable support over many years, the school hasn't been able to overcome its significant challenges, which include long-term problems attracting pupils, and associated issues around educational standards and finances.
"The school governors are as concerned about this situation as we are, and the time has now come for us to consider the long-term future of the school. I'd urge anyone with an interest in this school to go along to the event to tell us what they think and identify some potential future options.
"The event is just one of the ways that people can share their views with us about this proposal. Our aim is always to provide the best education we can for all young people."
A consultation document, containing a questionnaire, full details of the proposals, answers to Frequently Asked Questions and how to book an appointment at the consultation event will be available for the beginning of the consultation at: www.lancashire.gov.uk/schoolorganisationreviews
Responses to the consultation can also be emailed to email@example.com
Written responses can be sent by post to: Business Intelligence, Lancashire County Council, PO Box 100, County Hall, Preston, PR1 0LD.
All views will be considered very carefully, before any further action is taken, but must be received by Friday 20 October.
Feedback from the consultation will be considered at Lancashire County Council's Cabinet meeting in December.
