Children's Book Of The Year

To read more about the 2009 shortlist.

The winners of the 2009 Childrens Book of the Year are:

In first place – Blood Ties by Sophie McKenzie

Young judges will present Sophie MacKenzie with her prize on 20th June in the Council Chamber at County Hall.

Sophie says; 'It's absolutely brilliant that 'Blood Ties' has been chosen by the actual readers of the book as a story they've enjoyed'

This is what some the judges thought:

'The story will attract a wide audience. It pulls you into it so that you cant stop reading'

'when you felt you were just beginning to know and predict what was happening another twist took you somewhere else! It was full of surprises, a really enjoyable book to read'

Coming in second place – Just Henry by Michelle Magorian

'I loved this book!!!! Michelle Magorian managed to keep me awake for hours on end reading – she had cliff hangers everywhere, so that you just had to keep going until the next exciting thing happened!'

And in third place – The Trap by Sarah Wray

Excellent, easy to read, compelling and a good storyline… I would NEVER have guessed the outcome!'
