A mobile library from Ormskirk originally served the community of Parbold. This toured Newburgh in the morning and then came to Parbold village on a Thursday afternoon. Eventually this became insufficient for the needs of the population and in the 1960s the County Council purchased a site in Parbold on which to build a static library. However the site remained unused and in August 1987 a trailer library was provided for two days a week. It was sited outside the old community centre for two years until the present library was built. It was opened in 1989 by County Councillor Mrs R.B. Henig JP.
