Following a Big Lottery funded refurbishment, Lancaster Library reopened in December 2009, now able to offer more dynamic and flexible community spaces. From the jolly mayhem of Friday morning's Bounce and Rhyme sessions to the out of hours fun that is Get It Loud In Libraries, from the traditional book service through to IT support, for meeting spaces and quiet spaces the library has something for everyone. The site has a chequered past including coaching inn, police and fire stations, before the library was opened in 1932. There are still several 1930s features dotted about the library.
