Join a library

You can apply to join a library online or at your local library. It's free to join and there are no age restrictions.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Name
  • Local library
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Telephone number and/or email address (so we can contact you about reservations and overdue notices)

Anyone residing in the UK may join Lancashire's library service, however our eBook downloads and access to subscription resources are limited to Lancashire residents.

Once you receive your library card, you can use it at any library in Lancashire. You will also be able to reserve, renew and use our online services.

If you are under 16 you can join the library by yourself, we will send your parent/guardian a letter to tell them about the services you are entitled to.

You can borrow up to twenty items at a time (any combination of books, CDs, DVDs or other items). Books and audiobooks are issued for 3 weeks, DVDs and CDs are issued for 1 week.

Lancashire library books can be returned at the counter or via self-service at any Lancashire County Council library, regardless of which library they were originally borrowed from.

You can also download up to six eBooks or Audiobooks from our Digital Library.

Students and staff at the University of Central Lancashire may use their UCLan student card to borrow from all our libraries without the need to join the library.
