Opening times

Monday Closed
Tuesday 9.30am - 5pm
We are open until 7pm on the second Tuesday of each month.
Wednesday 9.30am - 5pm
Thursday 9.30am - 5pm
Friday 9.30am - 5pm
Saturday We are open on the second Saturday of each month from 10 am - 4 pm.

Please note:

  • We stop producing archives from the strongrooms half an hour before closing time
  • We ask that you return any archives to the issue desk ten minutes before closing time

Holiday closures

We are closed on all English Bank Holidays including additional days at Christmas and New Year.

Car parking

There is limited visitor parking, including disabled spaces, at Lancashire Archives. Visitors may prefer to use one of the park and ride services. The park and ride buses stop near Preston railway station.


By train: Preston station, on the West Coast main line, is 5 minutes' walk from Lancashire Archives. Directions from the railway station - leave by the main station entrance/exit (where the tickets are issued) and walk up to the main road (Fishergate Hill), turn left, and cross the road at the first pedestrian crossing (opposite County Hall). There are pedestrian direction signs from the railway station.

By bus - local and long-distance buses stop near the railway station or at Preston bus station, some 15 minutes' walk from Lancashire Archives. Walk down Fishergate Hill (County Hall on your right) and take the first road on your right (Bow Lane). Continue down here until you come to another road junction (Arthur Street). Lancashire Archives is across the junction to your right.
