NHS Greater Preston CCG is made up of 31 GP practices, who care for around 213,692 patients (April 2017). The majority (70%, 149,051) live in the district of Preston with the remaining patients mainly coming from the districts of South Ribble (21%, 44,645), Ribble Valley (6%, 11,897), Wyre (2%, 4,375) and Fylde (1%, 2,519).
The registered population is evenly split between females (49.8%) and males (50.2%) and whilst almost a fifth (16%) of the population is aged 65 or over, 31% are aged 0-24 reflecting the large student population. Just over half the population is aged 25 to 64. Deprivation measures show that there are mixed levels of poverty and affluence within the population with 43% living within areas classed as being amongst the 40% most deprived areas in England (IMD 2015 quintiles 1 & 2) and 43% living within areas considered to be amongst the most affluent 40% (IMD 2015 quintiles 4 & 5).
