Pre-apprenticeship

The Future Horizons scheme is a structured training programme for 16-18 year olds to improve your employability skills.

The programme includes up to 15 weeks work placement in the council, a local district council or a private business to enhance your work experience.

On the programme you will work towards the City and Guilds employability and personal development qualification which will prepare you for working towards an apprenticeship.

There are a variety of placements available including clerical/administrative roles, customer service, practical outdoors work and work in a school.

After you complete the Future Horizons programme there are also opportunities to link to the more manual roles within the private sector on an apprenticeship; for example, hairdresser, mechanic, electrician or tree surgeon. These are subject to availability.

Requirements

To qualify for Future Horizons, you must:

  • Not be studying, working or on a training course
  • Be aged 16-18
  • Be committed to being punctual and completing the programme
