Ex-service personnel mentoring in schools programme

The county council recruit ex-service personnel to become part of the mentoring in schools programme for secondary schools.

You will support young people to help improve their performance, behaviour and attendance and develop skills.

How to apply

The programme recruits once a year and when available the ex-service mentor roles will be advertised through the job search. Recruitment begins in April 2017, but you can email an expression of interest.

The contract will run for the academic year as an 11 month temporary term time pro-rata contract.

Eligibility criteria

You must be:

  • Ex-service personnel (evidenced by certificate of service)
  • Resident in Lancashire
  • In possession of Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Committed to completing all relevant training


You will undertake a training programme in parallel to employment with the council.

Specific specialist training will include:

  • Institute of Leadership and Management Mentoring for Young Learners (ILM level 3)
  • Award in Education and Training (Level 3)
  • Safeguarding training
  • Equality and diversity training
