The talk looks at who the Invincibles were; why Michael wanted to make the book; how he arrived at the idea; and covers in detail the process of producing the pages with Roy of the Rovers iconic artist David Sque. A must event for PNE fans and football fans in general - as well as anyone interested in books, graphic novels and local history! This is the story of the Invincibles as you have never seen it before!

Michael will be on hand afterwards to answer any questions and sign copies of the book.

About the book:

Preston North End – The Rise Of The Invincibles is the exciting story about the birth of PNEFC and the early success of their famous Invincibles team. It charts the club’s journey from their formation as a cricket club in 1867 through to them winning the first ever League and FA Cup double in 1889. Together with the beginnings of the Football Association, the battle over professionalism and the foundation of the Football League, the book also covers the American Civil War, the Lancashire Cotton Famine and two Preston Guilds - thus offering a social history alongside that of a football one.

Told throughout in comic book-style, the artwork has been produced by David Sque who illustrated Roy of the Rovers during the 1970s and 80s, with the writing and story by Michael Barrett. The book has the full backing of PNE, with a foreword kindly provided by Mark Lawrenson.

The book will be available to purchase, directly from the author on the day.

This event is free, but booking is required. Book Now.
