Welcome to Lancashire County Council’s ‘waste’ website. The need to improve our environment and effectively manage the rubbish produced in Lancashire is a challenge faced by all of society. The County Council have taken major steps forward in working with our partners, including all the local authorities in the County, to meet these challenges head on.
County Councillor Martin, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development says, "to ensure future generations are not compromised by our actions today, we have set targets to minimise, recycle and compost the rubbish we all produce. Whilst we recognise that not all household rubbish can be recycled or composted, we are looking at different and innovative methods of dealing with our rubbish – recognising its potential as a resource.
Lancashire County Council is recognised as one of the top performing authorities in the UK, leading the way in ‘sustainable waste management’. This website will explain how together local authorities in Lancashire can work in partnership with you to help waste less and recycle and compost more.
Lancashire County Council’s Environment Directorate have a dedicated team of officers that are responsible for providing information and advice on waste issues, including how to minimise our impact on the environment.
We provide a network of 23 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC’s) to which householders can deliver rubbish for recycling or composting. In addition, the County Council is responsible for dealing with the rubbish collected at your doorstep by the 12 districts of Lancashire.
Our success relies on the support of the public of Lancashire. Please look at the information provided on this website to see what we are doing with your rubbish now, what we intend to do with it in the future and how you can help us improve your environment".
