Road Collision Mapping

With over 4,500 collisions occuring every year in Lancashire the best way to view them is by location. Clicking the link to our online mapping system below allows you to zoom in to the place you are interested in and see information about the collisions.

The system holds details of more than 26,000 collisions going back at least five years. As one collision can result in more than one casualty, this equates to over 38,000 casualties - so do please zoom in quite closely before turning on the collisions!

Knowing where collisions occur is the beginning of the story: in Safety Engineering we look in detail at the collisions to see if there are common features about them; for example:-

  • Collisions involving a high proportion of pedestrians or cyclists
  • Collisions happening at specific times or days of the week
  • Collisions of a specific type such as lots of 'shunt' collisions

So, where does the information come from and what do we do with it?>>>
