On successful completion of the cyclist workpack children can progress to Module 2. This is practical off-road training covering basic cycle control through to manoevres based on simulated junctions. To attend this course each child must own or have unrestricted access to a roadworthy cycle and cycle helmet. Continual assessment is employed to measure progress.
A course consists of a number of practical sessions taking between 6 to 8 hours to complete. The number of sessions will depend on the number of children participating and their varying needs. It is recommended that this training is conducted as a number of sessions over a few days to allow for reflection time and enable accurate assessmnet to be made.
The maximum class size is 24 children with a pupil, trainer ratio not exceeding 6:1. A minimum of one Assistant Trainer will be required to assist the Approved Trainer for course sizes of 6 or less
The Road Safety Group must be given adequate notice of any proposed training, otherwise the course may not be recognised as an approved Passport to Safer Cycling course.
On successful completion of this module children are eligible to receive a certificate and a sticker for their 'Passport'.
