Training (non-powered)

14 September, 2005

Road user training needs to start at an early age so that life long skills can be established. The Road Safety Group provide training for both pedestrians and cyclists, usually within schools although these programmes are also available to other organisations and may be adapted as required.

Starting in Reception classes the Right Start Child Pedestrian Training programme is made available in a bid to help reduce child casualties in line with the Government's 2010 target of a 50% reduction in the number of children killed or injured compared to the 1994-98 average. Many schools across Lancashire have taken up the offer of this innovative programme.

When children reach Year 5/6 they are encouraged to take part in the Passport to Safer Cycling scheme. This is the Road Safety Group's scheme which incorporates both theory and practical training.

Paving the Way is a scheme which the Road Safety Group supports that provides road safety education for adults and young people with learning disabilities.

We also have advice on what to do when you encounter horseriders on the road.
