The Price

Presented by: Walking Forward Theatre Company

Target Group: 11 – 12 year-olds

Toured: Autumn 2006

The Road Safety Group is constantly researching new ways to tackle road casualties, particularly those involving young people and has arranged a theatre tour for secondary school pupils across the county.

The Price, a drama performed by Walking Forward Theatre Company, is aimed at 11-12 year olds transferring from primary to secondary school. It focuses on the issues of peer pressure, how to stay safe on the roads, and social responsibility.

Traffic is the biggest single cause of accidental death for 12-16 year olds. Nationally 22,000 young people are injured on roads every year, and almost 1 in 5 report having been involved in a road accident or ‘near miss’.

62% of teenagers admit to being distracted around roads due to using mobile phones, listening to music and friends talking.

The drama is specifically aimed at this age group due to the increase in risks associated with the change in journeys pupils experience as part of the transition process.

The Road Safety Group also supply schools with tutor packs, including lesson plans and key points for pupils to be reminded of, to be used as a follow up to the production.

If your school would be interested in being part of a future Theatre In Education (TIE) tour please contact Vivien Clayton on 01772 533466
