Home School Agreement

Home School Agreements were introduced within all schools during the Autumn term of 1999.

Road crashes are still the biggest cause of accidental death and injury to children and young people. 1 in 16 is likely to be injured in a road crash before the age of 16.

Home School Agreements provide a real opportunity to seek commitment and to take action to reduce this toll.

Below are examples of sample inclusions:-

For the School

  • Support and reinforce safe road user behaviour through classroom based activities.
  • Offer Road Safety Education as a programme integrated within the curriculum.

For the Family

  • We will make sure that our children understand how to travel safely by being aware of and using an appropriate route to arrive at school on time.
  • Encourage our children to behave safely on or near roads.
  • Make sure that our children get in and out of vehicles in appropriate places and comply with parking restrictions such as zig-zag markings.
  • Use appropriate restraints in vehicles at all times when transporting children to and from school.

For the Child

  • I will keep myself safe when I am using the roads.
