Lancashire is an integral part of the Northwest Region. The physical, economic and social relationships are fundamental to an understanding of the role of transport in Lancashire. In the same way, at a policy level, Regional Strategies provide the context for the preparation of Local Transport Plans. The Regional Planning Guidance for the North West was published in 2003 mid way through LTP1. The transport policies of the LTP were examined against the RPG polices and found to be fully compatible.
The Draft Regional Spatial Strategy has been published and supports three of the Major Schemes being developed in Lancashire as high priority. These are the Heysham to M6 Link, Blackpool to Fleetwood Tramway and the East Lancashire Rapid Transit. Lancashire’s second Local Transport Plan has been prepared in the light of the emerging Regional Spatial Strategy and more detail on how the LTP supports regional policy can be found in that document.
