Lancashire Environmental Fund

The County Council’s Environmental Projects Team and Lancashire Environment Fund (LEF) have formed a unique partnership, which offers a range of complementary resources to community groups striving to put their ideas into action. The Projects Team and LEF have regular and open dialogue about many of the environmental projects taking place across the county.

LEF utilises the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme to support environmental projects. The Fund is financed by donations from SITA UK Ltd and Neales Waste Management Ltd together with a contribution from the County Council.

Not for profit organisations can apply for funding for initiatives which will benefit the environment and people of Lancashire. Projects must fit with the Fund’s strategies for sustainable development and local community action, have environmental benefit, allow public access and offer good value for money.

Projects should also meet one of the following Landfill Tax Credit Scheme criteria:

Brierfield Peace Gardend
  • √ Providing and maintaining public amenities and parks, within 10 miles of a landfill site, when the work benefits the natural social or built environment
  • √ The provision, conservation, restoration or enhancement of a natural habitat, maintenance or recovery of a species
  • √ Restoring and repairing buildings which are for religious worship, or architectural or historical interest within 10 miles of a landfill site
