The Lancashire Environmental Fund is a not for profit funding organisation utilising the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme to support environmental projects within Lancashire. The Fund is financed by donations from SITA UK Ltd and Neales Waste Management Ltd together with a contribution from Lancashire County Council. LEF works closely with the Environment Directorate's Environmental Projects Team. This partnership means that they can offer a unique mix of resources to help to deliver projects from initial advice through to funding and project implementation.

As a team we recognise that much environmental activity is initiated and carried out by local people. We provide advice especially in the areas of funding, design, permission, maintenance and implementation to those who are working locally in their own area. We have created 2 informative guides to help schools and community groups to implement their environmental projects.
The team also run a Community Design scheme which was set up to help community groups in Lancashire to plan their projects with the help of a professional designer, commissioned by the County Council.
There are occasions where the most practical and effective way to implement change is for the County Council to take a lead on individual initiatives. We are especially active with small-scale environmental improvements.
