The following scale of charges has been agreed by Lancashire County Council and the Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and N. Merseyside. It relates to the supply of biological and habitat information held by them to outside organisations. Income from these charges is applied to the administrative costs of the service as well as to the maintenance and development of the database.
Access to environmental information held by the County Council is subject to the provision of the Environmental Information Regulations implementing EC Directive 90/313/EEC. Restrictions on the supply of certain information may therefore apply.

The following terminology is used to refer to the various forms in which data relating to BHS is provided.
Biological Heritage Sites
Biological Heritage Site (BHS) is the term used to describe the top tier of non-statutory wildlife sites of nature conservation importance within the County of Lancashire. The system is operated jointly by a partnership of Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and English Nature (North West Team). BHSs have been identified after a review of all available ecological data including Phase 1 and Enhanced Phase 1 surveys, utilizing detailed site selection guidelines developed on a county-wide basis.
The Site Record consists of all information relating to a single BHS.
Composite Site Boundary Plans
There are two sets of Composite Site Boundary Plans covering the whole County:
a) 1:10,000 scale Ordnance Survey sheets depicting the boundaries of all BHS which lie, in whole or part, within the area depicted. Each site is labeled with a reference number.
b) 1:50,000 scale Ordnance Survey sheets depicting the boundaries of all BHS which lie, in whole or part, within the area depicted.
Summary site details are listed in three forms:
County Summary Listing
A listing of summary details for all the BHS within the County of Lancashire. The summary details comprise: Site Reference, Site Name, District, Grid Reference, Guideline(s) for Site Selection.
District Summary Listings
A listing of summary details for all the BHS within each of the 12 component districts within the County of Lancashire. The summary details comprise: 10km Square/Site Reference, Site Name, Grid Reference, Guideline(s) for Site Selection.
Site Summary Listings
The summary details for an individual site as they appear in the District Summary Listings.
Site Information Form
A single sided A4 pro forma providing summary details of a single site. The SIF includes the details contained in the Site Summary Listing together with a summary Site Description, Area (ha), Date Approved, Date Last Revised, Owner/Occupier, Conservation/Planning Status Context and Other Information/Comments.
Site Boundary Plan
A single sided A3 or A4 pro forma showing the site boundary on an OS base (usually at 1:10,000 scale) and giving the Site Name, Reference Number, OS Sheet Reference and Grid Reference. More than one pro forma may be required for larger sites.
