The Lancashire County Ecology Service provides specialist advice and information on a wide variety of matters relating to nature conservation in the County with the aim of securing the protection and enhancement of the Lancashire's biodiversity.
Our services are used by members of the public, the County Council and local authorities, as well as other land managers and grant awarding bodies (such as The Forestry Commission and The Environment Agency), consultants and academic researchers.
We provide advice on development control and forward planning matters to the Lancashire county and district councils and the unitary authorities of Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen.
With our partners we maintain the Biological and Geological Heritage Sites systems. Heritage Sites are considered to be of at least county importance for the habitats, species, geological or geomorphological features they support.
We offer advice on land management which will benefit wildlife and sources of grant aid which may be available to help. We develop and support new initiatives to improve current knowledge and understanding of the County's wildlife.
We maintain information in paper and electronic forms relating to presence and distribution of species and habitats throughout the county.
Some of these services are offered on a consultancy basis.
