Lee and Greens Moor Quarry

Lee and Greens moor quarries have been restored as part of an initiative to reduce the major impact that stone quarrying has had on Rossendale's landscape. In the past, as stone reserves were exhausted in one area, little or no attempt at restoration was made before other sites were opened. Central Government Funding has now provided the opportunity to restore old quarry sites for the benefit of wildlife, landscape and local people. Also, changes in legislation ensure that further quarrying of existing or new sites must be followed by restoration.

Lee and Greens Moor quarries are now an area for recreation and offer the opportunity to enjoy and understand both the natural and industrial heritage of Rossendale. Some of the area has been classified as a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest and many former quarry work areas have been preserved for their heritage value.
