Tony Lund - Countryside Officer for Rossendale

As the Rossendale Countryside Officer I cover not only the borough of Rossendale but also large areas of Burnley, Pendle and Hyndburn.

Part of my role in these areas is to respond to the needs of landowners and managers, members of the public and community groups in relation to countryside recreation and management. Where possible I try to offer a "one stop shop" for enquiries about countryside issues. Much of my role involves partnership working and I liaise on a regular basis with officers from the district authorities, United Utilities and organisations such as the Groundwork Trust, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and the Wildlife Trust.

 

 

 

I work closely with the Lancashire County Council Rights of Way Officers on access and Public Rights of Way issues in an attempt to ensure that the countryside is accessible. This involves helping to resolve outstanding PROW issues and liaising with the various footpath and bridleway groups that are active in the area.

I currently work with two Parish Lengthsmen, one in Cliviger and one in Whitworth.

 

 

 

 

In addition to my area focused work I also take the lead on a county wide basis for some of the Countryside Services social inclusion work. In particular I have been working on access to the countryside for people with disabilities and I am currently developing a county wide access for all project with the Groundwork Trust network. Additionally I have also recently started to look at the issue of ethnic minority inclusion and access to the countryside. At this  moment in time I am developing a project looking at this issue in more detail with Building Bridges in Nelson.

I am also involved in developing opportunities for more challenging mountain bike routes within Lancashire.
