BRUN VALLEY GREENWAY GUIDED WALK
2pm, Sunday 29th June
Rangers Base, Thompson Park, Burnley
A guided walk using part of the newly completed Brun Valley Greenway in Burnley is being held on Sunday 29th June, as part of the Rangers Day.
The 3 mile walk, led by Keith Wilson from Burnley Borough Council, will start at the Rangers base in Thompson Park, following the Greenway along the River Brun through Rowley Woods to Rowley Lake, before returning through the Millennium Woodland to Queens Park Arboretum.
Starting at 2pm, the walk will give people opportunity to have taster of the countryside on Burnley’s doorstep and to use the Brun Valley Greenway, a route created to make the local countryside more accessible for cyclists, walkers and horse riders.
Walkers should wear stout walking boots, and bring a waterproof coat, a drink and a snack.

Welcome to our new Volunteers who have joined us over the last few months.
A good winter’s work was done, completing 150 metres of hedge laying
and planting a new coppice.
A gentle reminder for those who have not yet paid this year’s subs (£7.00
waged, £3.50 unwaged). Our ‘biscuit crunch’ is in danger
of collapse!
If you are able to come along on any workday, please ring Liz and David. The
pick-ups will be at the Shrimp roundabout, Morecambe at 9.15 am & Royal
Lancaster Infirmary bus stop at 9.30 am, by arrangement.
SUNDAY 27 APRIL: DRY STONE WALLING TRAINING, SILVERDALE
A return visit to Hazelwood Farm for another season of dry stone walling in
co-ordination with the National Trust and the Farmer. This will be a training
day sponsored by Action Earth 2008.
SUNDAY 11 MAY: DRY STONE WALLING, SILVERDALE
Carrying on with our dry stone walling at Hazelwood Farm in this lovely limestone
area, to help maintain stock boundaries and improve landscape key features.
SUNDAY 25 MAY: HEDGE MAINTENANCE, SLYNE
An opportunity to see how your own hedge laying and tree planting of the winter
has done at Belmount Farm. Managing and maintaining is a crucial part of
the work.
SUNDAY 1 JUNE: DRY STONE WALLING: SILVERDALE
Continue to develop your skills in dry stone walling at Hazelwood Farm. It
takes time to hone up your skills.
SUNDAY 15 JUNE: MAINTENANCE,TORRISHOLME & GREAT WOOD SCHOOLS
Summer maintenance of these school nature reserves in Morecambe.

Team Navigation event for 2 to 6 adults held in the Forest of Bowland ANOB.
Fundraising Event to Support Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team.
The aim of the competition is for teams to visit as many points from a list
of specified grid references as possible within a 10 hour period. Teams decide
how far they will walk (or run) themselves.
Each specified gid reference has an associated question with points awarded
for each correct answer given. The team with the highest points wins. Teams
will camp at a campsite on the Friday & Saturday night. Camping equipment
need not be carried on the walk.
Entry Fee £35 per person.
Evening meals provided on the Friday & Saturday.

Pendle Witch Experience
Pendle Witch Experience was established in 2003 and is unique in that it is
the first regular minibus tour of its kind that explores
the most famous witchcraft story in English History.
The tours focus mainly on aspects of witchcraft that occurred in the Pendle

Want to get fit, raise money for charity and see some of Lancashire’s magnificent wildlife and breathtaking scenery? Then why not join in the Wheels for Wildlife Challenge 2008! This annual event is fast becoming top of all cyclists ‘to do’ list.
Run by The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside, it is designed to cater for all ages and abilities; with 3 routes through the beautiful Trough of Bowland this really is a bike ride with a difference!
The Routes
All start at Preston College, St Vincents Road, Fulwood, Preston. Participants can choose from:
Family: A scenic cycle through the Bleasdale fell area, suitable for all
Fitness: A more challenging route for those with a little more experience
Fanatic: Ride over the challenging but magnificent Trough of Bowland this is
a route for the experienced cyclist

Bowland Challenge

The Bowland Challenge is a team competition based on hill walking and navigation
held entirely within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It is a challenging walk that tests navigation skills for teams of 2 to 6 adults.
The aim of the competition is for teams to visit as many points from a list

Which points they visit and the order they visit them is down to each team.
Teams can therefore plan and choose how far they will walk.

for each correct answer given. The team with the highest points wins.
Teams will camp on the Friday and Saturday nights. Camping equipment will not
need to be carried during the event.
During the Friday evening teams will plan their routes. The walk will take place
on the Saturday.
Evening meals will be provided on the Friday & Saturday evening.
Entry fee £30 per person.
Proceeds from this event will go to support Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue
Team.
