A very warm welcome to the Lancashire Countryside Service website from the three teams that make up the Service,
• Public Rights of Way,
• Countryside Officers
• Countryside Rangers;
The site explains who we are, what we do and the services that we provide.
We hope that we inspire you with exciting things to do and great places to go to get the best out of the fabulous Lancashire Countryside and that you can find the information you are looking for.
We welcome your ideas and feedback regarding the site and our services, so please use the link below to contact us; we look forward to hearing from you.
Countryside Officers are the key community contacts for environmental and countryside issues and for making ideas happen. Through partnership with local communities, Local Authorities and Government Agencies we can develop projects that respond to the desires of the people of Lancashire. Countryside Officers are often able to provide advice on funding and may help with grant applications where appropriate. If you, your community or group have an idea for an environmental project please contact the Countryside Service.
Countryside Rangers are the very public face of the Countryside Service
and aim to ensure that you enjoy your visit to any of the Country Parks, Picnic
sites, Access Areas, trails and nature reserves looked after by the
Countryside Service. We ensure that sites are clean, safe and well looked
after. We arrange exciting environmental activities for schools and visiting
groups and run a programme of countryside events for the public throughout
the year.
We are supported by a dedicated group of Volunteer Rangers, especially at
weekends.
The public rights of way team are responsible for the 5544 kilometres of public
rights of way in Lancashire.
These responsibilities include
• signposting,
• waymarking,
• maintaining the surface of public rights of way,
• the updating and continuous review of public rights of way on the definitive
map which is the official legal record of public rights of way,
• and administering the law concerning public rights of way in particular
ensuring that they can be used by the public.
