A by-election for the Burnley Central West electoral division was held on 26 October 2023. The result of the by-election (declared Thursday 26 October 2023) is shown below:

WHITAKER, Don	The Conservative Party	574
	Majority	47

Eligible voters = 10,385, No. of Ballots = 1,951, No. of spoilt Ballots = 8

The Green candidate Scott Cunliffe elected with 630 votes (32.3%)

The result of the Burnley Central West by-election did not affect the political balance of the county council. The composition of the county council is: Conservative 48, Labour 32, Liberal Democrats 2, Green 2.
