Turton Tower

A Delightful Tudor House in Woodland Gardens

Set against the beautiful West Pennine Moors, Turton Tower lies nestled amongst ancient trees, with rolling lawns framed by high stone walls. The peaceful and romantic house and grounds are magical places to explore whether you are young or old. The house has evolved over five centuries from a simple defensive tower, to become a luxurious home. Today the house still captures the spirit of the Tudor and Victorian ages and displays one of the finest collections of period furniture and paintings in the region.

The original rectangular, stone tower dates to around 1420. The ground floor would also have been used as a place to keep livestock.

The house displays a wonderful collection of period oak furniture much of which is on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum.

People

From 1200 to 1475 the De Torboc and De Lathom families owned the manor of Turton; both of which retained a claim on the manor until the 17th century
