Consultation on budget proposals for 2016 - 2021

Over the next five years the council needs to make savings of £262m on top of those agreed in previous budgets, an unprecedented financial challenge due to continued cuts in Government funding, rising costs and increasing demand for key services.

By April 2018 the council will not have sufficient financial resources to meet its statutory obligations; even if we don't deliver any of the non-statutory services.

We will need to rely heavily on reserves to set a balanced budget for 2016/17 and 2017/18. View the policy decisions and budget proposals for all services.

Have your say

We are now consulting on Cabinet's policy decisions and budget proposals for some services and we would like to hear your thoughts on any actions that may be taken to mitigate their impact. The consultation process is explained below.

Where a service is continuing

Where a service is continuing, but has future budget proposals, we ran a four-week consultation between January and May 2016 about specific service design, need and use.

Where a service is stopping

Where a service is stopping, we will run a consultation between January and August 2016. This consultation will gather views about the impact of the service stopping, and where appropriate, the best approach to implementing the transition.
