Additional local highway maintenance funding

The Chancellor's Autumn Statement, on 5 December 2012, announced an additional £1.5 billion of Government investment to improve the highway network and reduce congestion.  Of this Lancashire County Council has been allocated a total of £5.536m (£3.632m in 2013/14 and £1.904m in 2014/15).

The £3.632m allocated in 2013/14 has enabled the county council to enhance its capital investment programme by funding the following:

  • £2.432m on more road improvement schemes on main roads, urban/residential roads, rural roads and footways across Lancashire
  • £1.0m on a pre-patching programme in advance of the surface dressing programme to be delivered in 2013/14 and 2014/15 across Lancashire
  • £0.2m responding to damages to the highway in Rossendale and Ribble Valley as a result of prolonged severe weather

The £1.904m allocated in 2014/15 has enable the county council to enhance the capital programme across a range of schemes to improve Lancashire's highway network.
