What is a councillor?

A county councillor is someone who is elected by local people to represent them on the council. Lancashire County Councillors are elected for a fixed four-year term. If a councillor is elected at a by-election he or she will serve until the next scheduled election takes place. The next elections will be held on Thursday 7 May 2009.
