Nelson Bus and Rail Interchange
The new interchange provides a combined bus and rail interchange. The new facility is designed to provide a more pleasant environment for passengers and features:
- Enclosed passenger concourse leading to 10 bus stands
- Direct Link to the rail station including passenger lift
- Travel Information Centre
- Manager's helpdesk on concourse
- Toilet facilities – including disabled toilet and baby changing facilities
- Comprehensive CCTV coverage
- Cycle stands
- Taxi and car drop-off facilities
The interchange will be manned from first to last bus and train departure. Particular attention has been given to providing enhanced safety and security for passengers using the interchange
Funding of the new Interchange
The new flagship project has been funded by Lancashire County Council in partnership with Pendle Borough Council. The Pendle Partnership has provided £1M through North West Development Agency funding. The £4.5M project has been designed by SBS Architects and constructed by Carefoot plc.
Aims of the new interchange
- To provide good access by both bus and train to Nelson Town Centre
- To create good interchange between bus, train, taxi and cyclist
- To provide a passenger interchange that people wish to use
- To provide a key flagship site for Nelson town centre
New Travel and Information Centre
The new Travel and Information Centre will be open 6 days a week providing a wide range of services including:
- Local and national rail tickets
- Bus travel cards – including Burnley & Pendle Goldcards, Wayfarer Tickets and Young Person Saver Cards
- Coach excursions and holidays
- Theatre and event tickets
- Discounted theme park tickets
- NoWcards
- Quality branded merchandise
- Wide range of free local literature
