Share A Story Awards 2013

Share a Story
Sharing stories with the under 5's is a great way of developing communication and language skills with in this age group, even from birth as it is never too early to start!   It encourages two-way communication, introduces new concepts and is a great bonding activity.

The Share A Story Awards are Lancashire County Council's Early Years book awards aimed at children Under 5.
Libraries across the County will be promoting one of the shortlists which include Books for Babies, Books for Toddlers and Books for Pre-schoolers and you can get involved by reading the nominated titles and telling us which one was your favourite to share.

The awards will be running throughout April and May, with special Storytimes taking place at most branches.

Come along to your local Library to participate and see which book will turn out to be your favourite!

Find out more and see the 2013 shortlists here.

List-o-mania

listomania

Do you like making lists? Then you are going to love the new Lists feature in our library catalogue. You can create your own lists – maybe films you want to watch, reading for college, books you'll want to read again – or you can browse Everybody's Lists for ideas. We've already created some for Bestsellers, Lancashire Book of the Year, Most talked about and New DVDs for children.

This should provide you with lots of reading inspiration. But, if you still need more, check out "What shall I read next?" a list of great websites about books and reading in our Good Web Guide.

Not just for Lattes!

Loyalty scheme booksLoyalty scheme DVDs

Library Loyalty Scheme goes county wide

You can now take advantage of our new Loyalty Card scheme in all Lancashire Libraries. The aim is to reward regular users and encourage you to sample more new reads, watches and listens by offering a free reservation or audio-visual loan for every five that you've paid for.

So how does it work?

To take part, please ask for a Loyalty Card when you place a reservation or borrow a DVD or CD. There are three kinds of Loyalty Card: one for reservations, one for DVDs and one for CDs including audio books. Staff will stamp the appropriate card each time you pay for a reservation or audio-visual loan. When you have five stamps on your Card you will be entitled to a free reservation or loan (but not coffee, unfortunately!)
