Play that Rocks

Play that Rocks

Play that Rocks! highlights the range of possibilities for the use of natural stone in the development, creation and provision of play facilities. It is aimed at those who provide for outdoor play such as schools, local authorities, parish councils, district councils, countryside services, Forestry Commission, National Trust and others. The aim of the booklet is to inspire, encourage and support innovative and interesting play design that would create challenging play spaces that work with the landscape, landform and the natural environment using the natural stone resources so freely available in Lancashire. The Play that Rocks! booklet can be downloaded below.

Lancashire Trees and Woodlands

Lancashire Trees and Woodlands Development Guide

Tree planting projects are growing in popularity.  Often a small amount of advice can make a big difference to the success of a scheme, so with this in mind we have developed a guide to help community groups to plan their project, including:

  • Choosing the right species for a particular site
  • Ways to plant different types of young tree (such as transplants and standards)
  • Planting
  • Spacing
  • Tree protection to help ensure survival
  • Pruning
  • Aftercare
  • Orchard trees
  • Hedge planting
  • Health and safety considerations
