Community Projects

Here to support brilliant environmental projects!

Lancashire County Council recognises that the people of Lancashire are often the driving force behind projects to improve their local environment and that many people care passionately about the places they live, the environment and their local amenities and want to make a difference in their local area.  We understand that nobody knows the local environment better than the people who live there; and are keen to engage local groups and organisations in improving and maintaining it.

The Environmental and Community Projects Service exists to help community groups to drive realistic projects forward whilst improving the quality of the natural and built environment. We have worked with many community groups and organisations, including schools, parish councils, allotment / local food groups, wildlife groups, residents and friends groups.

We support a broad range of environmental improvement projects, and have created a current projects section to show you some of the projects that are currently underway in your area.  We have also included sections about our priorities, how we can help and the types of projects we usually support

For those groups seeking more detailed advice on project development, we have created two in-depth guides to help guide you through the entire process of completing a successful project, both in schools and in the wider community.  Please visit our Project Guides section to access the guides.  This section also includes documents that are available to download, providing information on the use of natural materials in the development of play facilities and help planning tree planting projects.

Whilst it is not always possible to help everyone, if you believe that your community organisation and project activity match our criteria and would like our assistance with your community-led environmental project, please complete and return the Project Request Form below or contact us using our contacts page.

Farington Community Fund

Farington

Lancashire County Council has made available £100,000 to support the Farington Community Fund. The scheme is managed and administered by Lancashire County Council in partnership with South Ribble Borough Council. The fund is available to support community and environmental activity within the parish of Farington and for the benefit of the residents of Farington. All applicants must be from a voluntary organisation or group and must meet the two criteria above.

We are looking for innovative and creative projects that will address local needs and that can clearly demonstrate the difference the project will make to local people. We are not being prescriptive about what we will and won't support but applicants must be very clear about what is it they want the grant for and to be able to demonstrate clear outputs. We will prioritise applications that show value for money, combined with clear objective and sustainability.

Further information and application forms can be found on the Farington Community Fund page.

The schools sustainability calendar for 2012-13 is now available to download and aims to help teachers plan their work around sustainability and Eco-Schools.  It includes information on training courses and events in Lancashire, and details of the international and national days with environmental themes.  The calendar is updated approximately every half term with new events.
