In line with the Local Transport Plan, Lancashire has a rolling programme of modern public transport interchanges. Lancashire's interchanges vary both in their size and the services they offer but they have all been created to encourage the use of healthy, sustainable transport including public transport, cycling and walking. Integrated bus and railway stations ensure travel is made easily and quickly between both local bus and rail services and for longer distance journeys.
Interchanges are designed with the easy movement of passengers and public transport services in mind and to maximise social inclusion for all, including the elderly and mobility impaired. A safe, secure and welcoming passenger environment is provided with comfortable waiting areas and up to date time table information. Lancashire currently has manned interchanges at Burscough, Carnforth, Chorley, Clitheroe and Nelson which are supplemented by other mini-interchanges throughout the county.
