Family Information Service

Lancashire Family Information Service (FIS) aims to provide quality, accessible and impartial advice and guidance on a full range of childcare and family support services, resources and issues led by the needs of children and their families, carers, employers, professionals and local and national government and their agencies.

We know how important it is to make the right childcare decision for your child and we hope this website will help you find out more about childcare in Lancashire. We can supply lists of childcare in your area covering various types of childcare to suit your needs, for example:
  • Day Nurseries
  • Childminders
  • Nursery Schools
  • Pre-school Playgroups
  • Out of School Care (Including Breakfast Clubs/After School Clubs/Holiday Schemes)
  • Crèches
  • Parent and Toddler Groups

We can also provide you with information to help pay for your childcare and advice about your rights when returning to work including guidance on maternity/paternity entitlement.

Our standards of service:

When you visit us in person, we will aim to:
  • greet you in a polite and friendly manner
  • keep waiting times to a minimum and advise you of any delays
  • accommodate your request for access and language requirements as best we can
  • provide a private interview room, if needed, where an appointment has been made
  • discuss how we can best respond to your enquiry if you are not able to come to East Cliff in person
When you call us by phone, we will aim to:
  • answer your call as quickly as possible
  • ask you if you want to speak to someone else, or leave a message, if the person you are calling is not available
  • answer your call in a polite and professional manner
When you write to us or send us an email, we will aim to:
  • confirm we have received your letter or email within 2 working days and aim to reply in full within 10 working days
  • explain why it will take longer, if we cannot reply in full in 10 working days

You can help us by:

  • giving us all the information we need to help you;

  • letting us know if you have any additional or special needs;

  • being polite to our staff and showing the same respect they will show to you; and

  • letting us know how we're doing, so we can improve the way we help you.

Your comments, compliments and complaints are important to us. They help us improve our service. You can tell us what you think by:

  • phoning our Customer Service Centre on 0845 053 0000; or

  • filling in the feedback form available from our reception areas and public access points.

We have an official complaints procedure which is on show on our website and in our reception areas. This sets out the standards we’ll meet when we deal with your complaint and your rights if you’re not satisfied with the results of your complaint. If you want to make a formal complaint about the services you’ve received, please send an email, fax or letter using the addresses shown above.
