Banner for Access to Information

Welcome to Lancashire County Council's Access to Information Page.

The purpose of these pages is to describe how members of the public may obtain information held by Lancashire County Council when informal methods of providing information are not enough.

Often the informal routes for obtaining information are quicker and easier and the legal rights described below are intended to supplement and not replace existing ways of obtaining information.

There are several formal ways in which Lancashire County Council is required to make information available to the public as of right.

This page helps you to use your rights to access information held by Lancashire County Council by providing information and links. There is also some information on safeguards and exemptions attached to these rights.

Using these pages you can

  • Make a request for recorded information held by Lancashire County Council under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 or the Environmental Information Regulations 2004
  • Make a request for copies of information which Lancashire County Council may hold about you under the Data Protection Act 1998
  • Use links to go to other related websites, such as the Information Commissioner's website.

Please note that this page will be updated and amended as of experience of the new rights to access is gained. For example, it is intended to review the Publication Scheme and when this has been done, members of the public will be able to find, and in many cases download, information which the County Council publishes about its activities and about Lancashire.
