Claire Morgan: Contemporary Heritage Artists in Residence

Helmshore Mills Textile Museum

Claire Morgan makes suspended sculptures from thousands of individual elements.  She sees similarities between the intensive processes involved in making her work and the techniques used in the textile mills. Claire will be learning some of these skills and creating drawings to reflect her experiences and research.

Do you have a story to share?

Perhaps you or your family worked here or in a mill in the area? Claire invites you to join her and inspire her work by sharing your insight into the textile industry.

The Residency

Contemporary Heritage: A new way of seeing is an ambitious contemporary art programme created by Mid Pennine Arts in collaboration with historic sites across Lancashire. The artist residencies are commissioned by MPA in collaboration with Helmshore Mills Textile Museum; Lancashire County Council and Turton Tower; Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

For Turton Tower events we suggest booking, telephone 01204 852203 for further details and to book your place.

The residencies are also the first part of Perspectives of Pennine Lancashire's Explore programme and represent a new partnership between MPA and POPL and are an extension to the Contemporary Heritage Programme. Explore is a series of commissions running from Autumn 2011 through to Spring 2012 which aim to research and experiment within Pennine Lancashire's landscape and heritage through new approaches with artists, venues and communities.
