The forecast is for showers to ease away this evening, with largely clear skies expected to develop for a time through the early hours. This will allow road temperatures to fall close to or slightly below zero. Soon becoming cloudy again after dawn tomorrow, with the risk of further showers.

Following the evening Met Office update for Sunday 4th March there is weather prediction of a hoar frost forming with road surface temperatures falling to minus 2.0 degrees on a number of routes. As such a precautionary grit of the routes affected will be undertaken.

We have weather predictions of a hoar frost forming and road surface temperatures falling to minus 0.3 degrees. Therefore we will be precautionary gritting some priority routes.

The forecast for Friday 24 February 2012 is for a partly cloudy and dry afternoon and evening. Overnight cloud will be variable but tending to thin by dawn. Road surface temperatures are expected to fall close to and below freezing in places. Therefore an instruction has been given to apply a light application of salt to some priority routes commencing at 20:00hrs on Friday evening.

Road surface temeperatures are predicted to fall as low as minus 5 overnight and frost can be expected. As such a heavy appliction of salt treatment of all priorty routes is proposed commencing at 18:00hrs tonight to deal with any hazardous conditions that develop.

The forecast summary for today is for showers of heavy rain, with snowfall on higher ground above 250M, expected through the afternoon. Drier conditions are expected from 1800, with skies clearing overnight enable temperatures to drop.

The outlook for the weekend is for continued unsettled and wintery weather conditions, although Saturday should be a much drier day.

Road surface temperatures are expected to drop below freezing this evening in Central & South Lancashire, bringing a risk of frost to all roads, and also ice on any patches which don't fully dry off this afternoon. All priority routes in Area East will be treated from 16.00 this afternoon and will be treated again from 04.00 tomorrow morning.

Showers of rain / sleet or snow are expected to cross the region overnight with temperatures expected to be at or just below freezing. Tomorrow morning from around 07.00 a further band of rain / sleet or snow has been forecasted with possible disruptions to transport.

Rain, sleet & snow are expected in the area from 2100hrs tonight. These conditions are expected to last all night whilst road surface temperatures remain below freezing (although warmer than in recent days). Salt can be washed off in heavy rain, so icy roads are possible despite our planned and reactive actions and we urge drivers to take extreme care. These conditions are likely to last until mid-afternoon on Monday, but conditions may change and teams remain alert to respond to actual circumstances.

The refilling of grit bins across East Lancashire is continuing with the aim to refill all bins by the end of the week. It may be that grit bins have been re-filled and emptied but we will get round to refilling them as soon as resources and the weather allow.

Caton and White Lund Routes No Action
Green Land and Singleton Routes are to treated at 7.5 gms/m2 Safecote at 1900 hrs
Treatment were undertaken and Residual salt to cope with forecast conditions.
Minimum RST is minus 110 C

The forecast is there will be a dry period with some bright/clear spells. During the night some mist and perhaps freezing fog patches are likely to form. These will linger into the morning on Thursday, although again some brightness is expected. Ice expected from snow melt or frost .
