The Strategy for an Ageing Population aims to help make Lancashire a place where older people can live their lives in the way they choose and where their skills and expertise are valued. It has been produced by the Lancashire Partnership, Lancashire County Council, district and city councils and a wide range of organisations from all sectors of the community in partnership with older people from across Lancashire. The first phase of the strategy is designed to meet the needs of older people up to 2015. The second phase takes us to 2025.

We have developed the strategy to respond to the changes in our population. These changes include:

  • more older people;
  • fewer younger people; and
  • older people living longer and more healthy lives.

The strategy also responds to the different lifestyles of the generation aged 50 and over. It focuses on health and social care, but also on Lancashire's economy, transport, leisure, lifelong learning and housing. All of these things affect older people's lifestyles and expectations, particularly in terms of public sector services.
