Sensory Support

We support children and young people with hearing, vision or multi-sensory impairment and their families. Our aim is to give children and young people every chance to achieve their full potential and to minimise the educational, social and emotional impact of hearing, vision or multi-sensory impairment. Referral can be made by anyone with parental permission, direct to our local teams.

We provide a range of services promoting understanding of the needs of sensory impairment and provide information regarding:

  • type, degree and educational impact of a child or young person's hearing loss, visual impairment and multi-sensory impairment
  • developments in Deaf education
  • audiology
  • deaf awareness
  • ophthalmology
  • visual impairment awareness
  • multi-sensory impairment awareness
  • formal Educational Assessment
  • formal assessment in relation to the SEND Code of Practice
  • number of children in the Local Authority with a hearing loss and/or visual impairment and/or multi-sensory impairment

The service employs qualified teachers of the deaf, qualified teachers of the visually impaired and qualified teachers of the multi-sensory impaired.

We also employ deaf role models and sensory technicians to support our work.

You can refer a child or young person to us by contacting your local team:
