Health services

Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities

The health service (NHS) provides services that everyone in the population can access. These are called universal services. It also provides other services that you are more likely to come across because your child needs extra help and support. These services are called specialist services.

Due to the varying and often complex needs of children, it is possible that a range of health professionals will be involved in helping and supporting you, your child, and your family. See key roles within children's health services for an introduction to some of the job roles and specialist services you may come across.

Below is a list of the local health services available to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities:

For more information and support see the NHS Choices website for an A to Z of health conditions or contact a family medical information for information, advice and tips for parents who are going through the process of trying to get a diagnosis for their child.
