EHC plan timetable

From the time we receive a referral we have 20 weeks to complete the process. There are other timescales within this timetable:

Lancashire County Council (the local authority) receives a request for an EHC needs assessment. We must tell you about this request.   The date the we received the request is the start date.
We decide if an EHC needs assessment is necessary. We must tell you about our decision. Within six weeks of the start date.
If agreed the EHC needs assessment takes place. This assessment starts as soon as the decision is made.

We tell you our decision.

Either
We send a draft EHC Plan to you.

Or
We tell you of our decision not to issue an EHC Plan. We'll also explain what you can do next.

Within 16 weeks of the start date.

You should respond to the draft EHC Plan.
You can:
Agree that the draft is adequate or ask for a meeting to discuss any changes.

You have the right at this point to state a preference for a school or early years setting.

Within 15 days of receiving the draft EHC Plan.
We consult with the school or early years setting. Within 15 days of your response to the draft EHC Plan.
We issue the final EHC Plan. Within 20 weeks of the start date.
