Lancashire Student Services deliver a wide range of presentations on Higher Education themes from brief introductions to extensive packages. Printed information materials are provided to implement each theme.

Package themes focus on providing facts and figures for students about to enter Higher Education and helping students to make the best choices when thinking about continuing in education.

All presentations are delivered by experienced IAG officers in a style and length suitable to your audience’s requirements. Our high quality services offer you th flexibility you need. Through discussions with yourselves we can help to ensure that your event is successful.

Student Finance

A PowerPoint presentation providing a broad overview of Higher Education student finance. The presentation explains the basic sources of funding, the application process and repayment arrangements. A case study helps to illustrate student income, expenditure and provides an opportunity to consider alternative sources of income.

Application Process

A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation providing an overview of the basic Higher Education student finance package and step by step guide to completing the online application process.

Considering Higher Education

A short PowerPoint presentation giving an informal introduction to the benefits of Higher Education and the Student Finance package.  This presentation is included in the ‘Choose to Go Higher’ workshop.

Higher Education Part-time Funding

A Powerpoint presentation focusing on all aspects of part-time funding. This includes eligibility criteria, the funding package, calculating intensity of course, and the application process. This product can be incorporated within another presentation.

Workbased Learning

A PowerPoint presentation illustrating the advantages of part-time study.  Using case studies as examples we explore the application process and financial package available. A work book is also available to promote the learning experience.

Care to Continue (Lancashire)

A Powerpoint presentation targeted towards young people in or leaving care. Covering the advantages of Higher Education and funding available from both central government and the Local Authority. The package also includes a workbook for young people. Versions of this product are available for students residing under the Lancashire Authority and the Blackburn with Darwen Authority.

Care to Continue (Blackburn with Darwen)

A Powerpoint presentation targeted towards young people in or leaving care. Covering the advantages of Higher Education and funding available from both central government and the Local Authority. Practitioner Packages

A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation covering all aspects of Higher Education finance. This includes detailed information such as recent changes to regulations, thresholds, dependant / independent criteria, and student outgoings. A workbook and resources pack is also included providing an opportunity to examine case studies and explore different situations.

Our interactive workshops promote learning through activity. Introduced and facilitated by our expert IAG team, our learning activities encourage groups of up to 30 young people to gain knowledge and experience of student finance issues.

All workshops include a brief introductory presentation and workbook for participants. Themes provide facts and figures for students continuing in education and also promote the benefits of research and action planning. Each workshop is designed to last for approximately one hour.

Choose to Continue

This fun workshop features activities and case studies suitable for years 8 and 9 pupils. Topics explore attitudes towards money, expenditure and budgeting and provides a realistic insight into the costs of living as a student. The workshop also covers potential progression routes from school through to Higher Education. A workbook is provided to complement the activities and to promote the learning experience.

Choose to Go Higher

An interactive workshop, suitable for years 10 and 11, offering a realistic insight into university life, budgeting and student finance. A workbook is provided to complement the activities and to promote the learning experience.

About to Enter Higher Education

This informal workshop suitable for years 12 and 13 pupils, considers the benefits of Higher Education and delivers information on the basic package of student support, living costs at university and how to set a budget. Students are provided with an activity sheet and are encouraged to consider the budgeting and researching skills required in choosing Higher Education.

We provide personalised information, advice and guidance for students, parents and carers to confidentially discuss individual circumstances and alleviate any student finance concerns.

One-to-One

Students and parents/carers can arrange for a face-to-face confidential discussion with an information, advice and guidance worker to talk through the issues that matter.  We can arrange to meet in school or college.

Information Stand

Staffed by a member of our IAG team and featuring a range of literature as appropriate to your requirements. Merchandise promoting student finance can also be provided. Suitable for open days, careers events, or to support a one-to-one surgery event or drop in centre.

Lollipop Information Point

A mobile, electronic information point that contains a wealth of information appropriate to students considering or about to enter Higher Education.  Suitable for open days, careers events, and conventions.

Our comprehensive range of literature is designed to provide up-to-date advice and guidance on each aspect of Student Finance, in line with latest Student Support Policy releases from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. Not only informative, our A5 leaflets are also a useful reference guide when dealing with student and parent enquiries.
