Learning at college or sixth form

Welcome to Lancashire Student Services

Lancashire Student Services promotes progression through stages of learning. We provide in-depth, customer-centred advice and guidance, to support access to and participation in further and higher education.

Key functions of the service include:

  • Facilitating good choice making: supporting the people of Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen in achieving economic wellbeing through upskilling
  • Widening participation: overcoming barriers to learning
  • Awareness raising in the current economic climate: helping current and prospective students to navigate any obstacles presented by the financial downturn
  • Partnership working: effective and transparent collaborative working with internal and external agencies
  • Serving as a policy unit: engaging in problem-solving, information brokerage and knowledge transfer, as well as contributing to policy-making at national and local levels

In addition to the delivery of IAG (Information Advice and Guidance) in local schools and colleges Lancashire Student Services engages with key targeted areas of work. These areas include: Work Based Learning, E2E (Entry 2 Employment), Younger Learners, Learners with Disabilities, Continuing Professional Development for Practitioners, Young Offenders and Children Looked After.
