Our venues

We invite you and your pupils to step back in time at Lancaster's oldest town house, a fine Grade I listed building. Through active participation, role play and object handling sessions, your pupils will be given the opportunity to explore and discover what life would have been like for children their age during the Victorian era.
Parlour games (1hr) Key Stages 1 and 2
Pupils will look at and consider the differences between rich and poor children’s toys and games, with an opportunity to play some of the popular games of the time.
Traditional story time (1hr) Key Stages 1 and 2
This session develops the idea of sitting around a cosy fireside listening to traditional stories, learning rhymes and playing with toys. Aspects of the Victorian home are also explored.
Upstairs/downstairs (1hr) Key Stage 2
Through role play and object handling, pupils will experience and be given an insight into the life of both a domestic servant and their master.
School days (1hr) Key Stage 2
Pupils will be taught the strict Victorian standards of discipline by our Victorian school teacher. Your pupils will be able to hear a traditional Victorian prayer, recite the times table, practice handwriting, discuss the ‘moral’ for the day.
Victorian cottage (1hr) Key Stages 1 and 2
Take an intimate glimpse of Victorian life as we welcome you and your pupils to our humble cottage. Pupils can find out more about the every day life of a retired servant in their own home. This session complements the sessions at the Judges' Lodgings.
You can choose combinations of activities to suit your particular requirements and those of your pupils.
