Fleetwood Museum

A voyage of discovery

  • Overlooking the beautiful Morecambe Bay this friendly Museum, housed in the old Custom House, a Grade II listed building designed  by the famous architect Decimus Burton, explores the story of Fleetwood from past to present.
  • Find out about the Victorian idealism of Fleetwood's founder, Sir Peter Hesketh Fleetwood and find out more about his friend Decimus Burton, who designed and began building the new Victorian planned seaside town.
  • Come and discover more about Fleetwood's heyday as a Victorian seaside resort, its cargo trade, ferry services, its lifeboats and brave lifeboat men, about the docks and the industrious fishing industry - both inshore and deep sea, the invaluable and heroic role trawler men played during the wars, the chemical giant ICI and much more...
  • Two galleries tell the story of deep sea fishing and inshore fishing and a computer area allows access to "Netting the Bay", an exciting website which allows people to find out much more about the fishing industry and the natural history of Morecambe Bay.
  • Drop in and have a coffee in our comfortable, friendly cafe and feel free to browse in our shop, which has a wide variety of gifts and souvenirs for sale.

Activities for Families

The Museum offers "Fabulous Fun," arts and crafts sessions that are held regularly for families from the local community and surrounding areas during the school holidays. The children have a wonderful time and so do we!

If visiting the museum, ask also about our quiz sheets- these are engaging and fun for the children to do whilst looking around.
