News: Alan Crosby brings the History of the Guild to the MOL

A History of Preston Guild
Tuesday, 17th July 2012

Discover the history of Preston Guild with local historian and Guild expert Alan Crosby at the Museum of Lancashire on 30 July at 7pm.

Renowned historian and author Alan Crosby has written a superb illustrated history of the Guild, covering the organisation and the celebrations from 1179 to 2012. In it he shows how the Guild started as a monopolistic trading body, becoming in the eighteenth century a fashionable event for the elite, then in the Victorian period a showcase for the industrial might of the town, and transforming in the twentieth century into a grand carnival for all.

Copies of The History of Preston Guild will be available to purchase on the night and will be signed by the author.

Tickets £2.00 available at the museum or ring 01772 534075 to book your place.
