About us

Core purpose

The core purpose of Lancashire Adult Learning is twofold:

To enable all adults in Lancashire to achieve success in learning so as to improve their skills for employment, the quality of their personal and family lives, and to enhance the social and economic well-being of their communities.

and also:

To support local employers and Lancashire’s economy through provision of high-quality, responsive training.

Key functions

The key functions of the service are:

  • Responding to government priorities by
    • equipping adults with the skills required for employability, particularly Skills for Life, and enabling progression up to and beyond full NVQ Level 2
    • responding to employer need (including Lancashire County Council), through a range of provision, including Apprenticeships
  • Maintaining and delivering a relevant and responsive curriculum for Personal and Community development across Lancashire, including a continued and increasing emphasis on social inclusion and widening participation from a range of targeted groups and individuals
  • Addressing the learning needs of key target groups, enabling them to progress to further learning/training
  • Maintaining and delivering a relevant and responsive curriculum for Family Learning and Family Language, Literacy and Numeracy, including a continued emphasis on social inclusion and widening participation from disadvantaged families
  • Supporting the development and regeneration of local communities through learning and capacity-building activity, both independently and in partnership with Community, Voluntary and Faith Organisations

The service seeks to achieve the following outcomes for its learners and clients;

Learners and their communities:

  • Enhanced employability and improved work skills to Level 2 and beyond
  • Richer, more rewarding lives, individually and within the family and the local community
  • More enabled, cohesive and prosperous communities

Employers:

  • Enhanced productivity and efficiency through a more capable, flexible workforce, equipped with the skills necessary for further training and development
